Breast images require at least 256 shades of gray to delineate the fine differences in tissue architecture that allow us to recognize pathologies during an ultrasound exam. Today, a multimodality approach in breast imaging that correlates mammographic and sonographic findings is an indispensable tool. Implementing these imaging techniques together can result in a more accurate sonographic diagnosis of breast pathology.

The course “256 Shades of Gray'' is created for sonographers to learn basic interpretations of mammographic images and gain the necessary skills to confidently correlate mammographic and sonographic images.  With the use of an algorithm, evaluating mammographic density will both strengthen and facilitate this approach for practitioners, benefiting mammography technologists, as well as other medical professionals working in breast imaging.  The course will improve both mammographic interpretive, and sonographic skills, raising one's level of confidence in breast ultrasound.
